Amorite Interview

1. For those who have never heard of you before, could you tell us a little bit about the band?
There are so many new bands approaching nowadays, so right after founding the band our main goal was to write and record a full length LP. We tried to avoid the situation where great PR is done without any real achievement like releasing a debut album.

2. In June you had released your first album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
The first LP contains a lot of old school themes and influences, so does the final sound. This is pretty simple. We play death metal as we like it the most. Beside this, the overall mood and the message behind words were the most important ingredients in our musical mixture.

3. Your lyrics cover Ancient mythology, Spiritualism and Occultism, could you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?
Our interest with Peter (Peter Szabo – drummer, vocalist) connects somewhere near the ancient Sumerian mythology. This was a great starting point to create our first LP’s lyrics. However you can find a lot of topics regarding the theme, I feel that most of our generation still can’t understand how great impact this historical period had on mankind. The most stones are still unturned and will be, because the continuous wars in the region cover the places with great danger. Is this a coincidence, or some greater powers wants to cover the signs of our real identity? It is clear regarding the ancient stone tablets that all of our religions are rooted in this place. Nowadays facts like this won’t tear down walls, but I think other secrets are lying there covered. Spiritualism and occultism impacting a human’s life and the whole society is part of our common interest. This is an eternal fountain of themes.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Amorite'?
Amorite was the name of an ancient Sumerian tribe and the root of Hammurabi’s dynasty. Using it as a band name was Peter’s idea. Why we chose this name? I think I told the most important things in the previous topic. It has got a good sounding and a lot of spiritualism behind it. Contains all the moods and messages we want to express through our music.

5. Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
The idea of building a stable and live-capable band around us popped up, but „whens” and „hows” are not clear yet. A new member will be introduced in our upcoming Ep called Final Entropy, but we are still far away from a stage-ready pack.

6. Your album was released by 'Neverheard Distro', are you happy about the support they have given you so far?
Releasing a debut album through Neverheard Distro is one of the greatest achievements a new underground band can imagine in our country. Recent days Neverheard is one of the most professional labels in the scene and we built up a really close relationship over the years with the man behind the label. I would recommend the labels stock for everyone how is into the scene. If you want to find the best Hungarian underground extreme bands and releases just check out Neverheard!

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
We got some feedbacks, but the interest is still growing. Everyone can listen to our LP through the internet, and you can find it on the torrent sides too. This is our second interview just on this week. Of course, the PR work that Neverheard makes has a great impact too. We sold all CD’s and I hope interest for the MC version is also high. We don’t have anything to complain for.

8. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Last year cooperating with Peter Szabo I released a rock&roll album called Revolver Night. The band’s name is Bastards. This event was really disastrous because we didn’t want to serve out any style and scene requirements. Two years ago a Ukraine label released my drone/ambient project called Saturnus Aura. If the water will be still around Amorite, maybe I will release another album with this project. Recently I want to fulfill all the plans in mind with Amorite. Peter also has got some other project running, called In Vacuo witch is an experimental doom-black band.

9. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Our upcoming EP will be a bit more modern than the previous release. It is about the vision of a space trip and the process of the human mind melding into the Univers. It will contain three tracks and if you dig deep enough you will find a whole new level beyond the music, I guarantee that! The forthcoming LP will be a story from the years of the bloody medieval inquisition. The musical form will be still death metal, but I think it would be unique in some ways.

10. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Maybe it is a surprise, but I have really few death metal influences. When I listen to music, my interest is always around the mood and the message and of course around exceptional musical themes. My taste is wide opened, so I just mention some of my recent influences: Mayhem, Discharge, Electric Wizard, The Soft Moon. I would like to mention some of the best Hungarian acts also. One of the most creative and meaningful band is called Svoid, and of course I have to mention Purulent Rites, Age of Agony and Tremor too.

11. What are some of your non musical interests?
Beside the music I am a professional beekeeper, and of course I like exploring the symbols of shaman culture and ancient civilizations. I also like reading sci-fi literature.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Keep being open-minded and always try to reach your limits! Thank you for the opportunity.
